      By constructing a wind turbine, children engage in embodied cognition — they physically interact with concepts of energy and motion.       Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a small plastic bottle, straws, a piece of cardboard, and a pin. 2. Cut the cardboard into a circle (10 cm diameter) for the turbine blades. 3. Attach the straws to the circle to create blades and secure with the pin. 4. Poke a hole in the plastic bottle cap and insert the pin through the center of the cardboard circle. 5. Place your turbine outside in the wind and observe how it spins. 6. Record the turbine’s spinning speed — how does it change with stronger wind?
