      Why It Works

      The learning connection

By engaging in a scavenger hunt, children actively discover and categorize local species. This hands-on experience applies Bruner's CPA approach by moving from concrete observations to abstract concepts of food chains.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Grab a notebook and pencil for notes. 2. Go outside to your garden or a nearby park. 3. Observe and list different plants and animals you find, like a butterfly or a tree. 4. For each, identify what they eat (e.g., caterpillars eat leaves). 5. Draw arrows in your notebook to show who eats whom in the food chain. 6. Share your food chain with a family member and discuss its importance.
