      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Embodied cognition is at play as children mix soil, clay, and seeds, fostering a physical connection to environmental concepts. This sensory engagement deepens their understanding of sustainability while promoting cooperative learning as they share outcomes with family and friends.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 1 cup of dry soil, 1 cup of clay, and a handful of seeds. 2. In a bowl, combine soil and clay with enough water to form a thick paste. 3. Mix in the seeds until evenly distributed. 4. Shape small balls from the mixture, about the size of a marble. 5. Place the seed bombs on a tray and let them dry for 24 hours. 6. Toss your seed bombs in a bare patch of soil and watch them grow!
