1. Gather 5 objects: a green leaf (producer), a small toy insect (primary consumer), a toy bird (secondary consumer), a toy cat (tertiary consumer), and a paper plate (decomposer). 2. Lay the paper plate on the table as the base. 3. Arrange the leaf, insect, bird, and cat in a line leading to the plate. 4. Discuss how each object depends on the one before it for energy. 5. Draw arrows connecting each object to show the flow of energy. 6. Share your food chain with a family member — can they guess the relationships?
