Plastic bottle (1.5L)
Sand (2 cups)
Activated charcoal (1 cup)
Gravel (2 cups)
Dirty water (tap water with soil)
Scissors

Steps

How the activity runs

Gather all your materials on a clean table.
Cut the bottle in half and use the top as a funnel.
Layer sand, charcoal, and gravel in the funnel.
Pour dirty water slowly into the funnel.
Collect the filtered water in a clean container.
Observe the difference and discuss why it works!
