      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging in hands-on gardening enhances learning through embodied cognition — kids see, touch, and nurture their plants, fostering a real connection to ecological concepts. The repetitive actions of planting and caring for the ecosystem embed knowledge through tactile experiences.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take an empty glass jar and fill it with 2 inches of small pebbles. 2. Add 2 inches of activated charcoal to keep the environment fresh. 3. Layer 2 inches of potting soil on top of the charcoal. 4. Plant a few seeds (like coriander or basil) in the soil, spacing them apart. 5. Water the soil lightly until it's moist but not soggy. 6. Place the jar in a sunny spot and observe daily!
