      Embodied cognition comes into play as kids engage with real materials to simulate an ecosystem. By witnessing firsthand how plants and soil interact with water and light, they grasp complex ecological concepts through direct experience.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take a clear plastic bottle and cut it in half. 2. Fill the bottom half with small pebbles (2 cm deep) for drainage. 3. Add a layer of activated charcoal (1 cm) to filter the water. 4. Pour in potting soil (5 cm) and plant small seeds or a small plant. 5. Add a few small stones and water lightly. 6. Place the top half upside down over the bottom half and observe changes over a week.
