      The learning connection

Experiential learning allows children to observe ecological processes in real time, reinforcing concepts of energy flow and nutrient cycles. This aligns with Bruner's CPA approach, where children can engage in the concrete, pictorial, and abstract understanding of ecosystems.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take a clean, clear plastic bottle and cut the top off to make a terrarium. 2. Layer small stones at the bottom for drainage (about 2 cm). 3. Add a thin layer of activated charcoal to filter the water. 4. Place a layer of potting soil (3-4 cm) on top. 5. Plant small plants or grass seeds, then lightly water them. 6. Seal the top with plastic wrap and observe daily for changes.
