      Why It Works

      The learning connection

By actively creating a closed system, children engage in embodied cognition; they physically see the balance of life. This hands-on approach allows them to visualize concepts like habitat and biodiversity, enhancing retention through active participation.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a clear plastic bottle, small stones, soil, and a few seeds (like mustard or herbs). 2. Wash the bottle thoroughly and cut it in half horizontally. 3. Add a layer of small stones for drainage at the bottom half of the bottle. 4. Fill the bottle with soil, leaving some space at the top. 5. Plant the seeds in the soil, cover lightly, and water them. 6. Reassemble the bottle, placing the top half upside down over the bottom half, and observe your mini garden daily!
