This activity helps children identify different plants and their parts, promoting environmental awareness. By interacting with real plants, children learn to appreciate nature and understand the diversity of life around them.
Engaging with the environment through scavenger hunts utilizes embodied cognition, allowing children to physically explore and connect with the concepts of botany and ecology. This hands-on experience reinforces learning as they actively search and categorize their findings.
1. Create a list of 5 common plants in your area (e.g., neem, tulsi). 2. Grab a basket and a pen to collect and mark your finds. 3. Set a timer for 15 minutes; head outside to look for the plants on your list. 4. For each plant, observe and note down its features: leaves, flowers, or fruits. 5. Take a small leaf or flower from each plant as a sample (only if it's safe!). 6. Share your findings with Amma or Appa — which plant did you find the most interesting?
