Children learn to think critically about waste and creativity by reimagining discarded materials. This activity fosters a sense of environmental responsibility and artistic expression, as kids visualize animals in their minds and bring them to life using recycled items.
Using the CPA approach (concrete, pictorial, abstract), children first manipulate tangible materials, which helps them conceptualize their designs. This hands-on method encourages embodied cognition, as they physically engage with the materials and see their ideas take shape.
1. Collect 5-10 recyclable materials (like plastic bottles, cardboard, and old newspapers). 2. Choose your favorite wild animal to create. 3. Sketch your animal on paper to plan the sculpture. 4. Use scissors and glue to assemble the materials into the shape of your animal. 5. Add details using markers or paint. 6. Share your sculpture with family and explain how you created it!
