      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Using tangible objects helps ground abstract storytelling in embodied cognition. By linking stories to items they can touch and see, children create a multi-sensory narrative experience, boosting memory retention and storytelling fluency through Vygotsky's scaffolding principle.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Find a box or chest and gather 5 interesting objects from your home. 2. Think of a story connected to each object — it can be real or made up. 3. One by one, take an object out, and share its story with your family. 4. Encourage family members to ask questions about your story for more details. 5. Switch roles and let a family member share their stories too! 6. What was the most surprising question someone asked about your story?
