      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Mindfulness techniques activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing anxiety and improving focus. By dedicating a minute to breathing, children practice attentional control, aligning with Vygotsky's scaffolding by gradually building their ability to concentrate.

      Try it with your learner

      1. Find a comfortable, quiet spot to sit or lie down. 2. Set a timer for 1 minute. 3. Close your eyes and take a deep breath in through your nose. 4. Hold the breath for a moment, then exhale slowly through your mouth. 5. Focus solely on your breathing—notice each inhale and exhale. 6. When the timer rings, share how you felt during the minute with a family member.
