      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Writing thoughts down engages dual coding theory, combining visual and verbal processing. As children create their garden, they embody their gratitude through a tangible growth metaphor, making the concept personal and memorable.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take a sheet of paper and draw a large flowerpot. 2. Write at least 5 things you are thankful for on small cut-out leaves. 3. Decorate the leaves with colors and drawings. 4. Stick the leaves to the flowerpot drawing as if they are growing. 5. Share your Gratitude Garden with your family, explaining why you chose each item. 6. Reflect: How does it feel to notice all the good things?
