      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Creating a storyboard utilizes dual coding theory by engaging both visual and verbal processing. As children draw and describe scenes, they reinforce narrative concepts, making abstract ideas tangible and easier to recall.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 6 blank sheets of paper and colored pencils. 2. Fold each sheet in half to create 12 boxes. 3. Brainstorm a simple story with a beginning, middle, and end. 4. In each box, sketch a key scene from your story. 5. Write down a sentence explaining each scene under the drawings. 6. Share your storyboard with your family — what do they like best?
