Using auditory stimuli engages children in a way that strengthens their listening skills. According to Vygotsky’s scaffolding theory, children can gradually build their ability to identify sounds with support from an adult, enhancing their cognitive processing of auditory information.
Try it with your learner
1. Choose 5 different objects that make sounds (like a bell, spoon, or toy). 2. Blindfold your child or ask them to close their eyes. 3. Create sounds with the objects and ask your child to listen carefully. 4. After each sound, have them guess which object made it. 5. Repeat the game, switching roles so they can make sounds too. 6. Discuss together which sounds were easy or hard to identify.
