      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Using light and shadow in storytelling taps into embodied cognition, allowing children to physically enact their narratives. The process of creating shadows engages multiple senses, making the learning experience memorable and stimulating.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a flashlight and some household objects (toys, hands, etc.). 2. Dim the lights in a room or use a curtain to create a dark space. 3. Shine the flashlight on the objects to see their shadows on the wall. 4. Move the objects closer and farther to change the shadow sizes. 5. Create a short story using the shadows as characters and act it out. 6. Share your shadow story with Didi or Bhaiya — what adventures did they have?
