Role-playing engages children through embodied cognition, allowing them to physically experience different perspectives. By acting out scenarios, they internalize the importance of rights and responsibilities, making the concepts more relatable and memorable.
Try it with your learner
1. Write down 4 scenarios on separate pieces of paper. Examples: 'helping a friend', 'stopping bullying', 'voting in an election', 'participating in a community clean-up'. 2. Fold the papers and place them in a bowl. 3. Take turns drawing a scenario from the bowl. 4. Act out the scenario with family members, discussing the rights and responsibilities involved. 5. After each role-play, share your thoughts on what rights were exercised and which responsibilities were important. 6. Reflect on how these concepts apply in everyday life — can you spot examples?
