      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Embodied cognition principles reveal that physical movements tied to breathing help anchor focus. By using breath to direct energy towards a specific goal — popping balloons — children practice sustained attention while simultaneously engaging in playful action.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Inflate 5 balloons and tie them off. 2. Set them up on a table or the floor. 3. Take a deep breath in through your nose and exhale slowly on a balloon. 4. Aim your breath to pop the balloon — try not to rush! 5. Count how many balloons you successfully pop using your breath. 6. Challenge a family member to a breathing contest — who can pop the most?
