      Why It Works

      The learning connection

By using deep breathing in conjunction with a physical action, children engage in embodied cognition. This ties their emotional state to a physical activity, helping them enter a focused flow state while enhancing their ability to concentrate.

      Try it with your learner

      1. Inflate 5 balloons and tie them securely. 2. Sit comfortably and take 3 deep breaths, focusing on your inhalation and exhalation. 3. Stand up and grab a balloon. 4. Take another deep breath, visualizing your focus. 5. Pop the balloon with your hands while releasing your breath! 6. Reflect on how it felt to focus before popping each balloon — share with a family member.
