      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging with physical items like coins allows children to visualize patterns in a tangible way. This embodied cognition experience helps them grasp the concept of repetition and variation, fostering deeper connections to mathematical patterns.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Collect 20 Indian coins of different denominations (1₹, 2₹, 5₹, 10₹). 2. Arrange them in a line to form a simple pattern (e.g., 1₹, 2₹, 1₹, 2₹). 3. Have a family member guess how many coins are in your pattern. 4. Challenge yourself to create a new pattern using three different coins. 5. Draw your favorite pattern on paper and describe it. 6. Show your patterns to someone and ask them to extend it!
