Using a playful matching game taps into dual coding theory by combining visual memory with active recall. As children flip cards and search for matches, they create mental associations that strengthen memory retention.
1. Gather 16 playing cards (or cut-out paper cards with pictures). 2. Shuffle and lay them face down in 4 rows of 4. 3. Take turns flipping over 2 cards, trying to find a matching pair. 4. If they match, keep the pair and get another turn; if not, flip them back. 5. Continue until all pairs are found; count how many pairs each player has. 6. Reflect on your memory — which cards were the hardest to remember?
