      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Mindfulness meditation is grounded in cognitive training principles, enabling children to practice self-regulation and attention control. By pausing to breathe deeply, they reduce cognitive load and improve their ability to concentrate on tasks afterward.

      Try it with your learner

      1. Sit comfortably on the floor or in a chair with a straight back. 2. Set a timer for one minute. 3. Close your eyes and take a deep breath in through your nose, then out through your mouth. 4. Focus on your breathing, noticing the rise and fall of your chest. 5. If thoughts wander, gently bring your focus back to your breath. 6. When the timer goes off, open your eyes and reflect on how you feel.
