      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging with real objects from nature fosters embodied cognition, as children physically interact with and observe the details of each leaf or flower. This multisensory experience allows them to form stronger connections between visual art and the natural world, enhancing creativity.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 3-5 different leaves and flowers from your garden. 2. Place a piece of white paper on a flat surface. 3. Use a paintbrush to cover one side of a leaf or flower with paint. 4. Press it firmly onto the paper and remove it carefully to reveal the print. 5. Repeat with other leaves and flowers, experimenting with colors. 6. Share your prints with family — which one is your favorite and why?
