      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Using Vygotsky's scaffolding, children build on their current understanding by receiving hints that guide them to discover concepts on their own. The collaborative nature of guessing reinforces retention and application of geometry principles.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Draw 5 different geometric shapes on paper (triangle, square, circle, etc.). 2. Cut them out and hide them around the room. 3. Write down 3 clues for each shape based on its properties (e.g., 'I have 3 sides'). 4. Invite your family members to find the shapes using your clues. 5. As each shape is guessed, explain why the clues fit the shape. 6. Switch roles — can you create even trickier clues?
