      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Using color to express feelings engages children emotionally and cognitively, aligning with Bruner's CPA approach. The act of creating a physical representation of their mood enhances memory retention and reinforces self-awareness.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a large sheet of paper and markers or colors. 2. Draw a circle in the center and divide it into 5 sections for different emotions (happy, sad, angry, excited, calm). 3. Label each section with the corresponding emotion and color them in. 4. Decide which color represents your mood today and color in that section. 5. Share your Mood Meter with a family member and discuss why you feel that way. 6. Place your Mood Meter in a visible spot and update it every day.
