      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Using dual coding theory, this activity combines visual representation (colors) with emotional concepts, making feelings easier to understand. By coloring, children actively engage with their emotions, reinforcing learning through embodied cognition.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a large sheet of paper, colors, and a ruler. 2. Draw a big circle and divide it into 6 equal sections. 3. Choose colors that represent different moods (e.g., blue for sad, red for angry). 4. Color each section according to your chosen moods, and label them. 5. Share your Mood Wheel with your family and discuss times you felt each emotion. 6. Reflect on how you can express your feelings when you experience them.
