      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging in role-play and storytelling utilizes Vygotsky's scaffolding where children build on their existing knowledge. The act of performing helps solidify their understanding of characters and plot, enhancing their verbal and emotional intelligence.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather a shoebox, scissors, colored paper, and markers. 2. Cut out a stage opening on one side of the shoebox. 3. Decorate the inside of the box to create a set design using colored paper. 4. Write a short script for a 2-minute play with your family. 5. Choose roles and rehearse your play, using props from your home. 6. Perform the play for family members and ask for feedback!
