      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging in a tactile task like origami encourages embodied cognition, where the physical activity of folding helps solidify mental focus. Each precise fold requires attention, allowing children to practice mindfulness while simultaneously improving fine motor skills.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take a square piece of paper (15cm x 15cm). 2. Fold it in half diagonally to make a triangle. 3. Unfold and fold it in half the other way, creating another triangle. 4. Fold the top point of the triangle down to the base. 5. Fold the sides towards the center to form a heart shape. 6. Share your completed heart with family members and explain how folding felt relaxing!
