Combining deep breathing with a physical action like balloon popping utilizes embodied cognition. The act of breathing deeply while engaging in an exciting task helps children anchor their attention and reduces cognitive load by simplifying their focus.
1. Inflate 3 balloons and tie them securely. 2. Write distraction words (like 'TV' or 'toys') on each balloon. 3. Stand in an open space and take a deep breath in through your nose. 4. As you exhale through your mouth, aim for a balloon and pop it with your hand. 5. Repeat for each balloon, focusing on your breath before each pop. 6. Discuss how you felt before and after each pop — did your focus change?
