      Why It Works

      The learning connection

By coordinating breath with movement, children ground themselves in the present moment, promoting effective emotion regulation. This aligns with Vygotsky's scaffolding theory, as guidance during the activity helps them develop self-monitoring skills.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Inflate a balloon and tie it securely. 2. Stand in a spacious area together. 3. Take a deep breath in through your nose, then blow the balloon up. 4. While keeping the balloon in the air with gentle taps, practice deep breathing: - Inhale deeply for 4 counts. - Hold for 2 counts. - Exhale slowly for 6 counts. 5. Keep the balloon afloat while repeating the breathing exercise 5 times. 6. Discuss how you felt before and after the activity.
