      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging physically with the balloon while coordinating breath control utilizes embodied cognition, reinforcing focus through movement. This experience helps children develop concentration skills while managing cognitive load by simplifying their focus to one task at a time.

      Try it with your learner

      1. Inflate a balloon and hold it in one hand. 2. Take a deep breath in through your nose. 3. Release the balloon into the air and use your hands to keep it from touching the ground. 4. As you play, count how many breaths you take while keeping the balloon in the air. 5. Try to keep the balloon up for 3 minutes without it dropping! 6. Share your best time with family members and challenge them to beat it.
