By using a visual memory challenge, this activity harnesses the dual coding theory, combining images (tray items) with verbal memory (recalling names) to strengthen neural connections. The competitive aspect keeps children motivated and actively engaged.
1. Gather 5–7 small household items like a spoon, toy, and book. 2. Place them on a tray and show it to your child for 30 seconds. 3. Cover the tray with a cloth and ask your child to write down what they remember. 4. Lift the cloth and check the items together. 5. Repeat with different items and see if they can remember more each time. 6. Challenge family members to see who can recall the most items!
