      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Using a memory game taps into Vygotsky's scaffolding, where children can build on existing knowledge through structured play. Each turn encourages focused attention as they search for matching pairs, enhancing cognitive recall through active participation.

      Try it with your learner

      1. Take 10 pairs of used cards or papers and mark each pair with the same picture or design. 2. Shuffle the cards and lay them face down in a grid. 3. Take turns flipping over two cards, trying to find a match. 4. If they match, remove them from the grid; if not, flip them back. 5. Keep track of how many pairs each player finds. 6. After all pairs are matched, discuss strategies used for memory and focus.
