Creating a personal map helps children understand spatial relationships and the concept of geography. This hands-on activity encourages them to visualize and organize their thoughts about locations and important features in their environment.
Embodied cognition principles suggest that spatial learning improves when children physically engage in map-making. By drawing their ideal city, they actively construct their understanding of geography, enhancing memory retention of spatial concepts.
1. Take an A3 sheet and draw a large rectangle for your city. 2. Decide where to place at least 5 important landmarks like parks, schools, and homes. 3. Use colored pencils or markers to decorate each landmark with a unique symbol. 4. Label each landmark clearly with its name. 5. Create a legend to explain any symbols you used. 6. Share your map with family and explain why you chose each landmark.
