      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Engaging with Sudoku supports Vygotsky's scaffolding principle, as children build on prior knowledge of numbers. Each placement requires careful thought, helping them develop cognitive strategies while minimizing cognitive load by focusing on one section of the puzzle at a time.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Draw a 6x6 grid on a sheet of paper. 2. Fill in some cells with numbers 1-6 as clues (3-4 numbers). 3. Encourage family members to solve the puzzle by placing missing numbers without repeating in rows and columns. 4. Set a timer for 10 minutes to increase excitement. 5. Discuss the strategies you each used to fill in the numbers. 6. Create a new puzzle together and swap it with another family member!
