Children learn the basics of saving and investing by allocating coins into different jars. This activity helps them visualize how diversification can affect savings over time, even with small amounts.
Using physical jars to represent different investment types engages children through embodied cognition, allowing them to physically manipulate their ‘portfolio’ and see the results, reinforcing the principles of diversified investment.
1. Gather 5 small jars or containers and label them: 'Savings', 'Education', 'Fun', 'Charity', 'Emergency'. 2. Collect loose change (at least ₹50). 3. Decide how much to allocate to each jar based on your goals. 4. Count and sort the coins into each labeled jar. 5. Discuss why you chose those amounts for each goal with a family member. 6. Track your savings over a week and see which jar fills up the most!
