      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Simulated investment activities engage children in active decision-making, promoting embodied cognition. By visualizing the outcomes of their choices, they can better connect actions with consequences, reinforcing their learning through real-world parallels.

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather 5 different types of pretend currency (using paper or cut-out cards). 2. Label each type with different investment scenarios: stocks, bonds, real estate, savings, and high-risk investments. 3. Set a timer for 10 minutes; decide how much to invest in each scenario. 4. Roll a die to determine the outcome for each type and record the results. (1-2 = loss, 3-4 = no gain, 5-6 = profit). 5. Calculate total returns based on your investments. 6. Discuss with a family member what strategies worked best and why!
