      Why It Works

      The learning connection

The hot seat format encourages children to think on their feet, enhancing their verbal communication and cognitive flexibility. The immediate feedback from peers nurtures a supportive environment that aligns with Vygotsky's scaffolding theory, fostering growth through social interaction.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Set a timer for 1 minute for each participant. 2. Choose one person to be in the 'hot seat' while others prepare questions. 3. Ask the person in the hot seat questions like 'What is your favorite book?' and 'Why do you like it?'. 4. Let them answer as many questions as possible before the timer runs out. 5. Switch roles and repeat until everyone has a turn. 6. Discuss what questions were easiest or hardest to answer and why.
