Printmaking blends creativity with a tactile experience, engaging children in embodied cognition. The physical act of pressing and inking allows them to visualize and materialize their stories, making the abstract concept of storytelling concrete.
Try it with your learner
1. Gather a potato, a knife, and a shallow plate with paint. 2. Cut the potato in half and carve a simple shape or pattern into the cut side. 3. Dip the carved potato half into the paint until it's fully coated. 4. Press the potato firmly onto a piece of paper to make a print. 5. Repeat with different shapes or colors to create a mini story with your prints. 6. Share your printed story with Appa or Amma — what narrative does it tell?
