Why It Works

The learning connection

Hands-on activities engage students by making learning interactive. Measuring heartbeats allows them to connect theory with real-life experiences, enhancing retention of knowledge.

Extend the Lesson

Try it with your learner

1. Find your pulse on your wrist or neck. 2. Count your heartbeats for 15 seconds. 3. Multiply the number of beats by 4 to get your heart rate per minute. 4. Jump for 1 minute continuously, then find your pulse again. 5. Count your heartbeats for 15 seconds and multiply by 4 again. 6. What did you notice about your heart rate before and after jumping?
