By actively searching for germs, children engage in embodied cognition, as they physically interact with their environment. This hands-on approach helps solidify the concept that germs are real and must be managed, reinforcing Vygotsky's scaffolding principle as they discuss findings with an adult.
1. Gather materials: a notebook, pen, and 3 different colored stickers. 2. Choose 5 places in your home to check (like doorknobs, kitchen counters, or remote controls). 3. Look closely at each location and note where you think germs might hide. 4. Place a sticker on each spot: red for high germs, yellow for medium, and green for low. 5. Discuss with your family why you chose those ratings for each spot. 6. Create a cleaning plan to tackle the high-germ areas together.
