Using real-life objects like pizza engages children through embodied cognition. As they cut and share, they physically manipulate portions, reinforcing their understanding of fractions through visual and tactile experiences that align with Bruner's CPA approach.
1. Take a round pizza base or make one from dough. 2. Divide the pizza into 8 equal slices using a knife or pizza cutter. 3. Choose toppings (vegetables, cheese) and decorate 4 slices with different toppings. 4. Label the slices: 4/8 with toppings and 4/8 plain. 5. Share the pizza with family, explaining the fractions as you serve each slice. 6. Discuss whether the toppings make a fraction of the whole pizza larger or smaller!
