Embodied cognition principles are at play when children manipulate ingredients to form pizzas. By physically dividing their creations, they can visualize fractions and engage in discussions about equivalent fractions while sharing with family, enhancing retention.
1. Gather 1 large flatbread or pizza base. 2. Use a knife to cut it into 8 equal slices. 3. Decorate 4 slices with your favorite toppings (e.g., cheese, veggies, fruits). 4. Discuss with a family member how many slices are topped vs. not topped. 5. Share the pizza: let each person take slices according to fractions (e.g., 1/2 or 1/4). 6. Draw your pizza and label the fractions of each topping!
