      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Sudoku engages children through visual patterns and spatial reasoning, leveraging dual coding theory by combining numbers with their physical placement. The challenge of finding the right spot means children actively think and adjust their strategies.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Draw a 4x4 grid on a sheet of paper. 2. Write numbers 1-4 on separate pieces of paper (4 pieces each). 3. Choose 2 cells to fill with numbers — make sure they don’t repeat! 4. Take turns with a family member to fill remaining cells without repeating numbers in any row or box. 5. Check if the grid follows Sudoku rules at the end. 6. Can you create your own Sudoku puzzle to challenge someone?
