This activity teaches children to identify and articulate their feelings. Understanding emotions fosters emotional regulation and better communication skills.
Visualizing emotions through art helps children connect abstract feelings to tangible expressions. This aligns with Vygotsky's scaffolding principle, as children can use the wheel to communicate feelings with family, improving emotional awareness and regulation.
1. Gather materials: a paper plate, colors, and a brad pin. 2. Draw a large circle on the plate and divide it into 8 sections. 3. Label each section with different emotions like happy, sad, angry, and surprised. 4. Color each section vibrantly to represent the emotion. 5. Poke a hole in the center and attach the brad pin to spin between emotions. 6. Discuss your feelings with family using your wheel — when do you feel each one?
