      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Using embodied cognition, this activity links mental focus to physical action, making breathing techniques more effective. The challenge of keeping the feather afloat while breathing deeply encourages self-regulation and attentional control, which are crucial for managing distractions.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Find a feather or a light paper piece and an open space. 2. Hold the feather at eye level with one hand. 3. Take a slow, deep breath in, and then gently blow on the feather. 4. Try to keep it floating in the air as long as you can while breathing steadily. 5. Count how many seconds you can keep it aloft! 6. Challenge a family member to see who can keep their feather in the air longer.
