Using physical puppets and light to explore storytelling engages children in embodied cognition, allowing them to visualize their narratives through shadows while grasping spatial relationships between objects and light sources.
1. Cut out simple shapes from black paper (animals, people, etc.). 2. Tape a craft stick to each shape as a handle. 3. Set up a flashlight to project shadows against a wall or screen. 4. Hold your puppets in front of the flashlight to create shadows. 5. Create a short story using your puppets and perform it! 6. Invite family members to watch your puppet show — how did they react?
