      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Letter writing promotes embodied cognition as children physically express thoughts and feelings. By reading and responding to their partner's letters, they engage in Vygotsky's scaffolding, building empathy through social interaction and shared experiences.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather two sheets of paper and colored pens. 2. Write a short letter sharing your feelings about a recent event. 3. Place your letter inside an envelope and give it to your partner (Appa, Amma, or a sibling). 4. Read their letter and think about their feelings. 5. Write a response letter acknowledging their emotions. 6. Share your letters and discuss how they made you feel.
