      Why It Works

      The learning connection

Using color to express emotions taps into embodied cognition, as it allows children to visualize complex feelings in an accessible way. By mapping emotions to colors, kids gain insight into their emotional states and practice emotional regulation in a fun, hands-on manner.

      Extend the Lesson

      Try it with your learner

      1. Gather materials: a white paper, colors, and a compass (or round object). 2. Draw a large circle on the paper and divide it into equal sections. 3. Assign a different emotion to each section (happy, sad, angry, etc.). 4. Color each section with a hue that matches the emotion. 5. Discuss with your family how each color makes you feel and when you experience these emotions. 6. Hang your color wheel in your room as a reminder of your feelings.
